Lanzarote is the most eastern of the Canary Islands, and is one of the most popular package holiday destinations in Spain. In the south of the island can be found a large mountainous area named the Timanfaya National Park.
The park is made up entirely of volcanic soil of volcanic activity frequently occurs on the surface in this area. In other areas of Lanzarote, the volcanic soil is used to nurture grapevines, the vineyard of La Gería operates in such a fashion and has been designated a World Heritage Site due to the traditional farming methods that are still employed which have not changed noticeably in the last 100 years.
